A leading telecom firm, delivering wireless experiences to more than 75 million customers, had reached a point where its supply chain simply couldn’t keep pace with its business. The company wanted to develop an integrated supply chain platform capable of capturing real-time events and offering better visualization. Instead, it was supporting more than 80,000 new SKUs and 500+ operational and information service requests annually without any instantaneous visibility or timely information to manage them. That gap became even more urgent following a merger, which made it critical for the client to generate real-time analytics across 10 product areas in the supply chain domain and integrate multiple data sources into one coherent view. To remain competitive and plan for the future with precision, the company needed advanced digital supply chain information systems that could offer better insight into every function and help it avoid the glitches slowing it down.
Ascendion assisted the client’s Digital Supply Chain Organization Information Services (DISCO) team in building a new Azure Data Pipeline environment for real-time data and reporting, forming the technical backbone for everything that followed.
On top of that pipeline, Ascendion built a big data platform on Azure Cloud using EventHub for real-time data ingestion, Azure Databricks for ETL, and Power BI- drawing from a data lake file system as the source for visualizations. To make the platform sustainable long-term, Ascendion also established data visualization standards, guidelines, and data modeling using a DIM/FACT table structure, along with governance procedures to keep the system reliable as it scaled.
